Applications are invited for admission to the following 3 year Diploma Courses
1 Diploma in Film Technology and TV production (Cinematography)
2 Diploma in Film Technology and TV Production (Film Processing)
3 Diplomas in Film Technology and TV Production (Sound Recording and Sound Engineering).
4 Diploma in Direction and Screenplay writing and TV Production
5 Diploma in Film Editing and TV production
(Separate application should be submitted for each Course)

For Direction and Screen Play Writing minimum Qualification is any Degree from a recognized University and for all other Courses Minimum qualification is Higher Secondary ./Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering/ Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering . For other details please refer to Prospectus available with the application form.

Application forms with prospectus can be obtained from the Principal, M.G.R Govt. Film and Television Institute, Chennai – 113 by sending a Demand Draft for RS 100/ (for SC/ST RS 30/-on production of copy of Community Certificate) drawn in favour of Principal M.G.R Govt. Film and Television Institute, Chennai along with self addressed envelope (20cm x 12 cm) affixed with postage stamp for RS 10/-

Application forms and prospectus can also be downloaded from www.tn.gov.in website and submitted along with demand draft RS -100/- (for SC/ST RS30/- on production of copy of Community Certificate) Demand Draft obtained earlier than 10-05-2008 will not be accepted.
Last date for submission of filled up application form is 5 P.M on 02.06-2008

New Admission criteria for students in SA

Western Cape universities say their new admission requirements are in place and they are ready to start sifting through the new batch of matric applications.

At the end of this year, grade 12 pupils will sit the new matric exam, which will no longer see them write higher and standard grade subjects.

As a result, universities which had relied on higher pass marks for admission to courses have been forced to redo their admission requirements.

Manager of admission criteria at the Matriculation Board, Abbey Mathekga, said while some had opted for admission tests, others were relying on a new point system.

“The admission requirements vary from university to university. They also vary from faculty to faculty,” he said.

However, all students wanting to study at university would have to pass four subjects out of 20 core subjects, with at least 50 percent. “Over and above this, universities had to put in place admission scores and other requirements,” he said.

Registrar at the University of Cape Town, Hugh Amoore, said the university’s new system would ensure matric pupils who gained entrance met the same requirements as those who had been accepted in previous years.

Amoore said they had opted for a point system and also the criterion of passing four subjects from a “designated list at 50 percent or better”.

Meanwhile all those wanting to secure a place at Stellenbosch University will have to sit an entrance test.

Community colleges urges to reject illegal immigrants

North Carolina’s state’s attorney general, Gov. Mike Easley told community colleges Thursday that they can set their own admission standards, which currently welcome students regardless of their immigration status.

The Attorney General’s Office released a letter Wednesday advising the colleges that federal law prohibits illegal immigrants from attending public colleges and universities. The advice, if followed, would reverse admissions policies at the state’s 58 community colleges and 16 public universities, all of which admit illegal immigrants at out-of-state tuition rates.

The office issued the advice in the wake of a controversy that erupted in December after the state Community College System issued a memo requiring its campuses to admit students regardless of their immigration status. Until then, each campus set its own policy and about a third of the campuses denied admission to illegal immigrants.

The public outcry became a national issue and was so overwhelming that the colleges asked for the legal opinion from the office of Attorney General Roy Cooper.

The 58-college system now admits illegal immigrants who are 18 years old and high school graduates — and others allowed under federal guidelines — to all campuses under a policy it adopted in 2007. A spokeswoman for the nation’s third-largest community college system said officials would take the contents of the letter, dated Tuesday and released Wednesday, under advisement. >> Read More
