Full Scholarships for 2 years of Pre-University Studies in Singapore

Value of Award:-
• Exemption from School and examination fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)

Online College Admission Guidance

College-bound youngsters and their parents now have access to expanded, free online resources at www.CaliforniaColleges.com to help them prepare for college and careers.

The publicly funded Web site provides free information to students, counselors, and parents about colleges and careers, admission policies, and how to plan and pay for higher education.

“At a time when tens of thousands of high school students are focusing on where to go to college this fall, this Web site is an invaluable tool,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell.

“I hope it will help us close the persistent achievement gap by increasing the number of students going to college, helping them plan their academic future, and preparing them for success in the challenging global economy,” O’Connell said.

The site allows users to locate current detailed information ranging from admission criteria to financial aid to athletic programs offered at more than 215 public and private California colleges and universities.

So far this year, the number of student accounts has increased 160 percent, from 6,891 in 2007 to 17,890, state officials said. >> Read more

Scholarship – Start Searching There are plenty of reasons to encourage a teenager to take a summer job. It builds responsibility, provides a glimpse into the work world, develops credentials for the next job and, of course, produces some spending money.

But if you are after serious money for college, there may be a better way.

During the summer, parents can put their high school students to work searching for scholarships and writing applications. If a child will be a sophomore or junior in the fall, the timing is ideal.

Some of the sweetest scholarships—ones that pay $5,000 or even $25,000—are awarded early in the high school years. But families often miss them because parents aren’t thinking about college when their children haven’t even passed driver’s training. Others assume erroneously that it’s futile to seek a scholarship if a child isn’t an A student or a star athlete.

Scholarships are geared for everyone from community do-gooders to inventors, golf caddies and bowlers. Some are designed specifically for members of racial minorities or particular religions, and others for people with learning or physical disabilities. According to FinAid.com, there’s even a $1,000 scholarship for a left-handed student who will attend Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa.

Parents tend to start searching frantically for money when children begin applying for college in their senior year of high school. Many don’t realize that tuition, room and board at a public university can run about $20,000 a year. Private schools, without the help of grants and scholarships, can be $45,000.

The trouble is that the parents’ panic over money hits at the worst time. Then, students are overloaded—trying to score well on SAT and ACT college entrance exams and writing essays for college applications while keeping their grades as high as possible.

At such a time, students can throw their hat into the ring for one of the few scholarships with no requirements other than entering a lottery. But in those contests, the numbers are against you. Any high school student who can click a mouse can enter. Read More

PG Diploma in Diploma in Medical Entomology – PGDME

Vector Control Research Centre invites Application in the prescribed format (downloadable from the website) for admission to ONE year Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Entomology (PGDME Course) upto 25th June, 2008. The PGDME course is affiliated to the Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. Separate hostel accomodation is available for Men and Women students.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

Category – I

(Open General – 5 seats of which 1 reserved for SC/ST). Candidates who have passed in I class (II class in the case of SC/ST) in one of the following examinations in 12+3+2 pattern of any University accepted by the Academic Council of Pondicherry University (i)M.S.c with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects. (ii)M.Sc., with Life Sciences are eligible to apply.

Category II -

(In-service – 5 seats): Candidates seeking admission under this category should be employed in either Government or Non-government agencies and sponsored by the employer. Such candidates should have passed in any class (i) B.Sc. (12+3 pattern) with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects and must have put in 5 years of service or (ii) M.Sc. (12+3+2 pattern) in any class with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects. The in-service candidates must forward their application with a “No Objection” or sponsorship certificate from their employer.

METHOD OF SELECTION

Selection of the candidates belonging to category I as well as category II will be based upon their performance in the entrance test, which include a written test and viva-voce. Entrance test will be held only in Pondicherry , and the date will be intimated to the eligible applicants individually.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

The envelope containing the application should be superscribed as: “APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO PGDME” and sent by Registered Post to: The Officer-in-Charge, Vector Control Research Centre, Indira Nagar, Pondicherry 605 006. The application should be accompanied by (i) a Demand Draft to the value of Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- in the case of SC/ST candidates), towards registration fee, drawn in favour of “The Officer-in-Charge, Vector Control Research Centre” payable at Puducherry, (ii) a self addressed envelope stamped to the value of Rs.15/-. and (iii) attested copies of certificates (iv) two recent photographs (PP size) Incomplete application in any respect will be rejected and no communication will be entertained.

Tips on Selecting a Good College

It is every student’s dream to graduate out of the best college available. Many reach their goals while some, despite working hard, aren’t able to make it. Then the dejected students look out for other colleges. They consider every other college as just another run of the mill, out of which if they pass out, nobody is going to acknowledge them. This is a false belief. There are many colleges worth the respect and honor that IITs and IIMs get; you just have to widen your horizons. After all it is the students that make the college.

While selecting a college there are a few things that you have to be careful about. Before short listing a college, you need to make sure that it has the AICTE APPROVAL or the UGC grant in case of a university. If you graduate out of a non accredited institute you will not be considered for registration as a professional and you won’t qualify for any scholarship or education loan either. Lists of colleges and their curricula, including accreditation information, are available at school and public libraries.

Other important areas to look out for are the infrastructure, the faculty, living areas (if you plan to stay in the hostel), placement records and job assistance offered by the institute. Visit the college official website and get the required information. You can then confirm it from a student presently studying there or even from alumni. You could find where the alumni are currently placed. The best way to get the right information is the students of the college. They will guide you in the right way because once bitten, twice shy.

If possible you should go for a campus tour to the college. Nowadays, many colleges offer this facility (provided you register well before hand). When you personally visit the college it becomes easier for you to take the decision.

The decision should be made after careful investigation of all opportunities available, and consultation with persons familiar with the college. Catalogues outlining courses of study and entrance requirements should be requested from the colleges you are considering attending. Join a college only when you’re sure that it’s going to be the best for you and your career. Don’t lose out on good colleges just because of the heavy tuition fees. If you search well you will definitely bag a scholarship, and if that doesn’t work you always have the option of education loans. Remember that money may be an issue but quality education is important.

BHU Diploma Nursing Midwifery-2008 Admissions open

Applications are invited for the Entrance Test of Three and A Half year Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery-2008 BHU.

Application form can be either downloaded from IMS website (www.imsbhu.nic.in) or BHU website (www.bhu.ac.in) free of cost or can be obtained from the Office of the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, B.H.U. Varanasi-221005 from 12-05-2008 by sending a self addressed unstamped envelope (24 X 30 cm) and a DD of Rs 50.00 drawn in favour of Director, IMS, BHU payable at Varanasi (by post till 11.06.2008 and in person till 24.06.2008).

The Duly completed application form (all the four pages) including 3 photographs along with required documents and DD of Rs. 500.00 for General Category or Rs. 400.00 for SC/ST category in favour of Director, IMS, BHUpayable at Varanasi must reach the office of the undersigned on or before 26.06.08 upto 5 pm.

ELIGIBILITY : Intermediate / 10+2 or equivalent with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English having 45% marks in aggregate for General Category & 35% for SC/ST category and Unmarried or Divorcee / Widow with no children liability.
