In association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, The Hindu invites applications for scholarships for technical training in Japan. The number of scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions are as follows

1. Candidates who must be Indian citizens, should not have completed 30 years of age on 31.03.2010 and should be in possession of the minimum degree of B.E., or B.Sc. (engineering) or its equivalent from any recognized university. Candidates who have already had practical experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be given, will be preference. Eligibility for applying

Academic requirements:* Students who have secured not less than 80% (Maths and Science subject only) in their 10th and 12th or equivalent examinations and not less than first class in graduation and post graduation (if applicable)

Only students presently studying in I and II year of B.Sc., I, II and III year of B.E./B.Tech/ MBBS/B.V.Sc/B.Pharm., I year of M.Sc and I-IV year of integrated M.Sc., with the above mentioned academic requirement should apply.

The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre of elsewhere in India, for 2 months with a stipend of Rs. 5000/- p.m. and travel support as per Govt. of India norms.

CDC offers Fellowship to Engg. and MBA Students for Live Consulting Projects

Consultancy Development Centre (CDC) is an Autonomous organisation of Department of Scientific & Industrial research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India set up for promotion, development and strengthening of consultancy skills and capabilities in the country including enhancement of export of consultancy and professional services.

This innovative scheme from CDC aims at providing a fellowship to B.Tech / B.E ./ MBA students to undertake a live consulting project during the education programme, to encourage capacity building and professional development in the field of consulting and to support high quality innovative live consulting projects.

Eligibility requires interested Students to have atleast 80% marks in 10+2 in addition to being enrolled in T school for pursuing Engineering degree or B School for pursuing Management degree accredited by AICTE / UGC.

NCERT Doctoral Fellowships – Applications invited

National Council of Educational Research and Training ( NCERT) New Delhi

Applications are invited for the award of 10 NCERT Doctoral Fellowships in the field of education and other disciplines directly related to education. The fellowships are intended for young aspirants to pursue doctoral work in a recognized university/research institution of their choice. Young scholars from different disciplinary perspectives will be encouraged to research the field of education.

Fellowships
will be given for research in the priority areas emerging from the concern expressed in National Curriculum Framework 2005. Broadly, these areas are as follows: (1) Education of the Disadvantaged, (2) Classroom processes and practices, (3) Curricular areas, (4) Education for peace, and (5) Psycho-social development of children.

Eligibility:
1. Good academic record with at least 55% marks at the Master’s degree level. 2. Candidates should not be more than 35 years of age as on the last date of receiving their application. 3. Candidates registered for Ph.D. degree in a recognized university or working toward their Ph.D. registration are eligible to apply.

Application Procedure: Application should be made in the prescribed format, which along with the information brochure, can be downloaded from the NCERT website: www.ncert.nic.in or can be obtained by post. Completed application forms should be accompanied by a concept paper of about 1,500 words on the theme of the proposed research, which should contain statements about (a) rationale and objectives of the study, (b) conceptual framework, (c) proposed methodology, and (d) potential contribution of the study. Proposals involving fresh ideas and innovative methodology related to school education in the country will be given preference.

Selection Procedure: Applications will be screened and short listed candidates will be required to appear for a Seminar-cum-interview. Candidates will be paid second (sleeper) class train fare by the shortest route for attending the Seminar-cum-interview. The statutory provisions for reservation of seats will be available to the candidates belonging to different categories.

Fellowship Amount: NCERT Doctoral Fellows
will receive a fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month for a maximum period of three years. They will receive a contingency grant not exceeding Rs. 10,000/- per annum during this period. The fellowship will commence from the date of registration for Ph.D. or award by NCERT, whichever is later, and will terminate at the end of three years from the award or with the submission of the thesis, whichever is earlier.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the J. N. TATA ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2009 -2010 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines and subjects. Selected scholars may also qualify for gift awards .

Eligibility

Applicants who are:
I) Indian nationals; and
II) (a) graduates of a recognised Indian university with a consistently good academic record; or
(b) students in the final year of the degree course; or
(c) mid-career professionals planning to go abroad for further research, specialization or training At the time of submitting the completed applications, candidates need not have the admission / offer letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2009-2010.

HOW TO APPLY ?

Prescribed application forms will be available from the Administrative Office of the Endowment at:

Mulla House, 51 M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001 from December 8, 2008 to February 16, 2009.

The application fee of Rs.100/- can be paid in cash or by a Money Order on which the full name and address is to be mentioned to enable the Endowment to send the form.

Completed application forms should reach the office of the Endowment not later than February 27, 2009.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

After the initial screening of applications, candidates will be shortlisted for an interview in person by subject experts. The final selection will be made on the basis of the interview which will be held in Mumbai between March and June 2009.

RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the Scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and award scholarship.

Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as in all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs. 7500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation out station awardees in boarding and lodging. The awardees shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI.

Eligibility : All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination. There is no application fee. The selection test will be held on January 11, 2009 at various centres across India. The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of March 2009.
