The Medical Council of India (MCI) has derecognised the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) courses offered at Kasturba Medical Colleges in Manipal and Mangalore. For, there were “several inadequacies in the colleges which would not allow students to benefit completely from the course,” said a senior MCI official.
Only MBBS degrees issued in the two colleges on or before 2008 will be recognised. “There were a lot of deficiencies in the course, flouting of government regulations governing medical colleges and inadequacy in clinical facilities and teaching staff.”
he MCI announcement has left parents anxious about the fate of their children who are still attending the colleges.
“We don’t understand why the future of our children is being put at stake. We want to know why the government is shutting down an institution which is doing much better than several government medical colleges,” said a parent.
He said: “The MCI should have issued at least an advance warning of its decision to ensure that students don’t get harassed in the process. We appeal to the Union Government to take some preventive steps to ensure that students studying in the college are not left without any option.”
The MCI has also recommended that five government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh be derecognised. “We have found some inadequacies and recommended that action be taken against these colleges,” said the official.

it’s just a dirty politics against the students, if we look at the defeciency then even aiims is not quite good(just visit and you find). it’s a joke which our government is playing and then when once the gonernment has given the nod it should constantly monitor, this shows how our government is. what more to write.
WHY WAS A WARNING NOT ISSUED BY MCI EARLIER?
THE KASTURBA MEDICAL COLLEGE HAS ALSO FIGURED IN THE TOP 10 MEDICAL COLLEGES IN INDIA IN SEVERAL SURVEYS. IS THERE SOMETHING BELOW THE SURFACE? STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE PENALISED.
Its not fair for the students studying at Kasturba,especially when there career is at stake.The decision of the MCI doesn’t looks to be in good taste especially when Kasturba is doing far better than most of the government collegs.There seems somethings fishy in the statement of MCI.But why should students absorb the heat of the tussel between them.

KMC obviously does not the need the opinion of a mere advisory body to prove that it is one of the best colleges in KArnataka if not in India…It has recommendations from universities and boards all over the world….it is positioning itself to be India’s premier international private sector institute…way to go KMC! A proud alumnus

it is shame on MCI’s part to derecognise such an esteemed institution in health care sector in India, which provide a wonderfull environment and infrastructures to the students.if MCI derecognise KMCwith reasons given,then they should also shut down 90% of the medical colleges in India.GO KMC!!!
Whatever may be the case, its the students who are going to suffer… MCI derecognition menas they cannot practice in india…
The derecognition of the college comes as a shock..this institution has excelled in providing quality education in the courses tht it has to offer…esp MBBS..i think the MCI should read this-

there are private colleges in karnataka,ghaziabad n other places all over the country which are recognised and KMC certainly is far superior n deserving than any of those colleges anyday
MCI SHOULD HAVE LOOKED ON THE MATTER BEFORE APRIL,IT IS REDICULOUS TO DERECOGNISE A COLLEGE OF THIS REPUTATION AFTER IT HAD NEARLY FINISHED THE ADMISSION PROCESS.WHATEVER MAY BE THE CASE STUDENTS ARE GOING TO SUFFER
I do not think KMC is very good, but it is better than many government colleges. If MCI derecognizes a college mid course it is because there is no governance. All government servants are corrupt either actively or passively. Corruption leads to terrorism. Well now some of the KMC students will become terrorists.
I am a senior citizen and I have no interest in KMC or MCI.

Guys… this is definitely a dirty politics that Indian Politicians normally play. I never expected MCI to act irresponsible like this. Why there was no press statement earlier? This time they were not given kickbacks so the recommendation was to derecognize? If MCI and Government of India has kind of responsibility towards general public, this kind of press release should not be made unless a pre-warning issued. Now what happens to those who are already on the journey of getting their Degrees in these Colleges? Before commening anything, let the Government look at thier Government Colleges. What is happening there? Why the Politicians are quiet now? Guys we need to wake up
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with “recognition” of KMC’s degree for gradautes to practice in India or anywhere else in the world…it is a threat MCI is trying to hang over KMC’s head limiting KMC’s ability to enroll students.
Look at the standard of other colleges and look at KMC…u’ll feel the difference. This college has an extra teaching staff and no other college in India match its facilities…U learn a lot in KMC…students frm KMC are perfoming far better than other medical colleges in India…MCI shuld reconsider this

I have recently visited K M C MANIPAL The college is so good with all infra structure & facilities. I am in medical carrier for last 30 yrs.I. have not seen any Govt. medical colleges with such facilities.In few of U P Medicalcolleges there is one or two teachers in some departments.Moreover one cadaver for 50 students. If MCI derecgnises KMCMANIPAL,They should do this for Govt. medical colleges first.This is only politics nothing else and indirectly torturing the students and parents mentally We all know dirty politics is ruining our contry. it should not come in education .For GODsake let the students study in tension free environment.
what the hell ??? do they know if they derecognise kmc .. then every single colege leaving out a few must get derecognised.. i am a student of that college.. i can speak best and not the mci.. we have been taught so much.. compare it to others .. we know a lot.. in my mbbs days .. not any class got cancelled.. theory and clinicals included.. which college can boast of that.,. we have teachers who are after us to learn every bit of it..we r taken as seriously as the pg s .. is the mci blind.. we have even classes on radio and psychiatry.. do they understand.. the seriousness of the situation.. do they realise that the some of the best doctors are passing out from there.. be it dr devi shetty,, the famous cardiothoracic surgeon.. or dr pratap kumar.. obstetrician of world wide fame. if i was not sure abt my alma mater .. i would have never posted this comment.. in the private ector .. this institution is doing so well.. we have no problems whatso ever.. the mess, the hostel facilities, the faculty .. no problem at all. then how can they ??? should the students not be taken into consideration,,
badhia hai yeh private colg wale donation k naam pe lakho rupay lete hain aur infrastructure naam pe kuch bhi nahi karte yeh baat bas KMC k liye nahin, engg colg k liye bhi lagu hai…. good decision
As a KMC alumnus, I am very happy that KMC had finally been derecognized. It was nothing more then a degree mill for the Pai’s and one of the most inept, badly managed institutions I have ever come across. Its sole purpose was to squeeze as much cash out of students as possible while providing as little assistance as it could manage. The only thing that KMC is good at is hype – they are quite happy to spend crores on advertising (this being the reason why they have featured so highly the incredibly skewed “top ten” lists which give undue weight to “reputation” but none to proving that reputation) but will stoop to emptying the student generated Poor Patients Fund to buy potted plants for their corporate offices. So until KMC bribes the right people, happy derecognition!

I request The Dean and KMC adminstration to take it up strongly and get the things settled at the earliest as this would be impacting /disturbing the students at mental level.
MCI is beating around the bush wid silly excuses to de recognise KMC. Who puts in a clause saying that mbbs stuedents cannot be staying in the same hostel as other course students. Wht bullshit is this. Living wid other students doesnt have nythin to do wid academics. The base is that MCI cannot find solid grounds to derecognize our college coz we r the best b it faculty, resources, facilities or patients. Nd since we are strong in our principles bout not bribin hungry needy people in the MCI they derecognize us b4 final yr results nd then recognize us again when results r out nd then de reognize us again!! its basically MCI says fill our pockets or suffer. When will us Indians stop bein so shameless and moraless? Thats y we are always gona b a developing country. Think outside d box nd think bout every1 not bout urselves.. Im ashamed at d MCI for being such low standard ppl!
